He is nine months old, and will surely start walking any day now. He stands on his own all the time (his free standing record is about 30 seconds), and like any little boy his age, everything within his reach go into his mouth. He has two days of skiing under his belt, and loves going on outside adventures with Jami, Whitney and I. He goes to work with me every day (I have a daycare at work), and as you can see from the pictures he is still pretty damn cute. He is especially cute on the ski lift.

Orin just got his fourth haircut from aunt Katie and with every one he looks more and more like a little boy and less like a little baby. Orin also LOVES to climb. Now this might be more curiosity than anything but the climber in me has seen him pull some amazing feats for a nine month old kid. I can’t wait to get a harness and rope on him this summer and put him on some real rock to see what he can do!

Orin is the best part of my day.

This release includes some pretty major changes, and wouldn’t be possibile without the many hours of work from ozgreg and the other members of the WPG2 team (this includes me). New features include Gallery2 Output as a Wordpress Page (Yay No more wp-gallery2.php file), Lightbox integration and support, widgets, an improved g2image, resized image support, support for Wordpress 2.3 and a whole bunch of other code improvements. Being one of the original founders of this plugin, I’m quite proud to be a member of this team. Who would have thought that the little project ozgreg and I started more than 2 years ago would be one of the most popular wordpress plugins, and see more than 40,000 downloads.

Hopefully, I’m on the right road to redemption. I’ve been climbing at Exit 38 in Seattle, and in both Paradise and Gallatin Valleys so far this year. The rock has been excellent and for the most part I’ve shaken off the old rust. My most recent adventure was the classic route in the Gallatin Valley called “Spare Rib.” I eyed this a few summers ago when I was climbing the Standard Route up Gallatin tower. It’s a wonderfully prominent and fairly exposed two pitch 5.8 that’s about a 45 minute walk from the car. It took us two trips to actually climb it in its entirety, as we got blown off the first time by some 50mph winds. It is a super route that eats gear, and it has a little of everything to keep you entertained. If you are in the area and looking for something to climb look no further than Spare Rib. You can find out everything you need to know in the Montana Climbing Guide.

If you are interested I gathered a few of the best photos from the friends I was with and put them up in our gallery for your viewing pleasure. You can check them out here: Spare Rib

It is painfully obvious that marcnjami.com is in some serious need of fresh content. It has been 3 months since anything new and relatively meaningful has been and I mean to remedy that situation in the coming weeks. I had been holding off on upgrading all the tools that power this site (Wordpress, Gallery2, and the WPG2 plugin) until WPG2 2.1 was solid. Now that WPG2 2.1 is almost ready to go gold I figured it was a good time to rejoin the blogasphere, upgrade my tools and put up some content for consumption and entertainment. I have played with many cool goodies in the last few months including Windows Vista, LCD TV’s, DVD players, Universal remotes, new monitors, computers, and skiis just to name a few. I also have many new photos to put up inlcuding a bunch of Jami and my adventures, photos of Gummy and my thoughts on being a father. I’m looking forward to the upcoming changes and getting back on the horse so to speak… Cheers!

What is firebug you ask? It really might turn out to be the best web development extension for Firefox ever made. This is a must have that no Web developer should do without. I’m serious - you need Firebug. Since I have been more active on the web development scene, I have used only two tools to create, interrogate and fix web sites. Firefox and it’s Web Developer extension, and UltraEdit, the king of all text editors (in my humble opinion.) Occasionally I will use TopStyle to more in depth css design, but after my most recent rebuild I have not installed it and have never missed it.

Firebug lets you view and edit the HTML and CSS of any page. It tells you exactly which CSS rules affect the styling of the element you select in the style inspector - not only which rules affect it directly but also which rules it inherits properties from. It lets you edit anything and toggle CSS on and off, with the results immediately showing on the page. It allows you to actually view the javascript that is loaded via an server side include, which the Web developer extention do not do.

That is only a very small portion of what this extension can do, and it is pretty much the best tool I have ever used. Given the fact that I have really only been playing with it for a few weeks and I’ve really barely touched the full capabilities of what it can do. Oh did I mention it is FREE?

Go get it and let me know what you think…

Get Firebug: http://www.getfirebug.com/

Here is the best part and the one that made me smile the most.

You’re a loser if…

You paid $500 and up for a video game system.

You camped out anywhere to buy one for your personal use.

You camped out anywhere to buy one and then try to dump it on eBay or some other auction site for a massive profit.

You were stupid enough to fall for Sony (and Nintendo and Microsoft’s) pretend shortages designed to stoke consumer angst and create a media event around the launch of a videogame system.

You’re a parent and you actually bought a PS3 for your kid because of the hype.

You’re a Sony executive and you thought your system would rule the roost…joke’s on you, Nintendo is outselling you. Your system costs too much, thanks to your decision to use it to try and force Blu-Ray onto the world.

You’re a game developer and you develop exclusively for the PS3.
