I began the process of migrating my site to Media Temple’s new (gs) Grid-Server hosting plan. It’s faster, more scaleable, better, stronger, etc, etc. I’ve been waiting for this for a while now, as I have a few clients that want sites and I was waiting for Media Temple to roll this out before we began the process. We will see how it goes, but it should be just what the doctor ordered.
So as of October 19th my site is now running on Media Temple’s new Grid Server back end and everything went pretty smooth for the most part. Wordpress tranfered over perfectly but Gallery2 did not. My data directory (i.e. the one that has all the photos and videos in it) did not come across (at least I couldn’t find it) but I’m sure the folks at MT will fix me up soon… The performance of my web site has suffered a tiny little bit (I use fasterfox’s built in page load timer as a benchmark) but I have not turned on my RR container and have spent no time tweaking things such as my php.ini file and other toys I never had before. Overall it went very smooth and I’m sure things will get better, as more people migrate over and MT platform’s get’s more mature…
As of October 20th, MT has helped me work through my issues (yes they were my issues really and one I figured it out it was easy to fix) and now everything is fully functional again… Yahoo!
Hot damn, the weatherman says it’s going to snow! The first snow advisory of the season has been issued for Bozeman tonight and possibly tomorrow. Even if it doesn’t pan out (we all know how accurate the weatherman can be sometimes) it is still very exciting. Jami laughed when I did my happy dance!
— October 17th Update —
There is snow on the ground in Livingston, Bozeman, a foot of fresh up at Bridger Bowl, and more on on the way this weekend! Let’s hope this is a good indication of what is to come this winter!
Jami and I are in Seattle this weekend for my brothers birthday (Happy Birthday Ryan!), and we all went to see the Broadway musical Wicked. Those who know me know that I usually fall asleep during these kind of events, and I can proudly say that I made through the entire show with barely a nod-off. It was without a doubt the best musical I have ever seen, and my mother has dragged my too many, many shows in my life. Folks were fired up for this show, and I have never witnessed such a tremendous positive reaction from an audience before. It kinda felt like I was at a Beatles concert or something. Great show, great company and overall a great weekend. Happy Birthday Bro…
It is our two year anniversary today, and I want to send props to my lovely wife Jami. She has put up with my crap on an official level for two years now, and for that she is awesome. The last few years have been entertaining, fun, and full of many changes for us and we have navigated these treacherous waters with grace and style. Between our move to Bozeman, purchasing a new house, new jobs and all the other complexity that goes along with it all, I think we have made out like rock stars. I love you Jami, and I can’t wait to put another two years behind us!
Well, our latest adventure involves multiple planes, countries and timezones. We are off the Germany for the better part of a week and we are excited to get out of dodge for a little while. I will have plenty of picture when we get back and if I get a chance I will do a little writing while were in Heidelberg. Cheers!
